Vanitas / Vanité du corps

/Flesh & Blood

France, 2009.

//The body is represented through a work on the clay, in black chamoté earth and blood red enamel. Vanity promises a "beyond flesh and perishability". It is the empty orbits that look at the disease of life. It is the decrepitude of the flesh, a double envelope imprisoning emptiness, the truth of the body. It inscribes death in the very tissues of the man. The decomposition, the rotting, the withering, the sexual folds and unfolds of the organic magma become both repugnant and seductive. To banalize death, to objectify the body are perverse phenomena of a consumer society where the sexually disorganized body is in a loss of its identity. Here, this ambivalence, is translated by the metamorphosis of the bone into flesh and redoubles vanity. It is a destruction of the bone by the matter itself.
